During the 2008 INDO DEFENCE exhibition, Thales is proud to announce the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indonesian industrial electronics leader PT LEN Industri.

This agreement will start a long-term partnership regarding the production of VHF PR4G F@stnet and HF 3000 Skyf@st radios in Indonesia.

This signature celebrates an existing long termlong-term fruitful relationship that relies on PT LEN Industri and Thales's shared view of permanent innovation and excellence in industry, and particularly electronics.

The agreement between PT LEN Industri and Thales aims at defining how the two companies would collaborate for the production of VHF PR4G F@stnet and HF3000 Skyf@st family radios in Indonesia.

Thales, through its multidomestic strategy, has long understood that fostering genuine partnerships with local industrial leaders is a fundamental point for customers. By signing this MoU, Thales guarantees Indonesian Forces a full availability of operational resources, while capitalizing on both Thales's and PT LEN Industri's extensive experience in electronics and military communications.

"Thales is very excited by this new partnership with PT LEN Industri", said Marie-Laure Bourgeois, Thales's Representative in Indonesia. "Thales and the Indonesian industry have everything to gain by working together. We are convinced that there are real opportunities for solutions that take advantage of the Indonesian industry's know-how and Thales's expertise in tactical telecommunications. By manufacturing the PR4G F@stnet and the Skyf@st radios, PT LEN Industri will give to Indonesia the advantage of equipping its soldiers with the radio already in operation in many countries. Currently more than 43 countries are using 130,000 radios in the world, which proves that PR4G is a true global radio."

"We are very happy to sign this MoU with Thales", said Wahyuddin Bagenda, President Director, PT LEN Industri. "This agreement formalizes an already existing longtime relationship with Thales. By encompassing the production of radios in Indonesia,
PT LEN Industri guarantees the government to rely on a full service and a greater availability of equipment and services thanks to local maintenance. More important, this transfer of production also strongly reinforces the national independence and sovereignty on defensce programs.

The PR4G F@stnet product line: a new generation of radio

Based on the core features which made the PR4G a success, Thales' F@stnet product line delivers a whole series of especially innovative services.

First of all, the PR4G F@stnet can transmit voice and data simultaneously. This feature, unique in the market, explains the success of the PR4G F@stnet, which has been selected by over 43 countries all around the world.

The Mux Mode enables in one radio two services, voice and data in the same channel, where a standard solution will need two different radios. Therefore, the Mux Mode of PR4G F@stnet has a positive impact on the investment while giving to the soldier an unsurpassed advantage in terms of foot print and weight.

This makes it the ultimate solution for the future to the data transmission needs of C4I applications, while also meeting the operators' voice communication requirements. In compliance with IP standards, the PR4G F@stnet then naturally takes its place at the heart of battlefield digitization applications, facilitating exchanges of data between information systems, at all command levels, in particular for mobile applications deployed near the front line.

Another major asset of the PR4G F@stnet is its capacity to handle communications at all times, even in the most hostile environments. While protection against hostile interferences, interception or follower jammers remains a crucial point for tactical communication, Thales has developed in consequences the concept of different operational modes reflecting the real situation of troops in a battlefield.

PR4G F@stnet is the only radio providing, fast frequency hopping, free channel search or the unique combination of these two modes. The automatic selection of ECCM (Electronic Counter-Counter Measure) mode is the result of the dynamic observation of the frequency spectrum and depends on the level of jamming. This makes life easier for the operator, but also provides an effective counter measure to various types of Electronic Counter Measure (ECM) targeting strategies.

Since the introduction of the first PR4G radio in service, through a combination of software porting to a new advanced platform, major improvements were introduced transforming year after year the PR4G as the Worldwide reference. The close collaboration with all armies in the world has contributed to develop unmatched features. Based on a unique leader position in defense Tactical Communication, Thales has set up a worldwide organization for a close and continues collaboration with its customers.
