Malaysia and Indonesia have agreed to allow three Indonesian airlines to fly Malaysian routes to serve increasing passenger and cargo demand, transportation attache at the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Sahar Andika Putra, said Friday.
Sahar said Batavia Air, Wings Air and Linus Air were allowed to fly to and from Malaysia, while Malaysian airline Fire Fly is allowed to serve routes to and from Indonesia.
These four airlines can expand their routes since the permits have been issued.
“I don’t know which routes will be served by these airlines but in principle they can fly to and from Malaysia and Indonesia,” Sahar said.
Currently Garuda Indonesia and Lion Air already serve the Jakarta-Kuala Lumpur route while Merpati serves the Surabaya- Kuala Lumpur route.
“The route is dominated by Malaysian airlines such as Air Asia and flag carrier Malaysia Air System, which fly several times a day while Garuda only once a day,” said Sahar.
“To compensate this, permits are issued for the four airlines to fly to and from Malaysia.
